Alberta Sees Record Numbers of Travelers from AbroadAlberta Top Travel Destination 2014 UK The Guardian Newspaper Infographic

More international travelers are making their way to Alberta than ever before. Now that the warm weather seems to be here to stay, many are planning their trip to the beautiful western Canadian province for some time during summer.

Maybe it has something to do with Alberta being named one of the top 10 travel destinations in 2014 by the Guardian, a well-established and reputed UK newspaper?

Or maybe it’s just the facts?!

Since March of 2010, Statistics Canada reports the amount of travelers from abroad making their way to Alberta increased by a whopping 23 percent!

That’s close to 413,500 travelers, the largest tally for the month of March ever.

In addition to the record sweeping numbers seen in March, year over year there was an increase of 6.2 percent with peak levels happening during August of 2013 when nearly 440,000 international travelers came to the province.

It’s very possible that international media groups who have covered the economic prosperity of Alberta over the past several years have helped drive more visitors and immigration to its cities, towns and villages.

But 2014 isn’t the only year where Alberta and its cities have seen elevated levels of tourist activity. See more at Calgary Leads Tourism Growth 2012 today.

Alberta’s economic prosperity is directly linked to its oil sands, the third largest proven oil reserves in the world and Canada’s most precious natural resource.

However, tourism is also a key part of the province’s economic success as an increasing number of travelers from abroad come looking for accommodations and food, two large industry sectors that employ many Albertans.

Travelers bring money, spend it at local businesses and what not and inject that money into our own economy, driving prosperity and bolstering the economy.

This can also give government incentive to further develop roadways and other infrastructure projects needed to supplement the needs of locals and tourists which in turn also creates many jobs.
