I’m sure you’ve heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Well, if you’re like me, you probably don’t always feel like cooking first thing in the morning and immediately turn your attention to where you can get good breakfast close to home. For those who live in the northwest, there’s a handful of awesome restaurants where you’ll find some of the best breakfast in NW Calgary.

Here are our top breakfast restaurants in the northwest quadrant of Calgary. Please leave us a comment below and let us know what your favourite breakfast / brunch are in the area, we will do our best to add it to the list!

Dairy Lane Calgary RestaurantDairy Lane Café

  • Address – 319 19th Street NW
  • Phone Number – 403-283-2497

This small, popular café in Hillhurst has become a go-to place for breakfast and brunch not only for the immediate area, but for breakfast enthusiasts from all over Calgary. If you don’t know why this is, then you must visit this restaurant as soon as you get the chance, take my word for it!

One of my favourites is the avocado & roasted red pepper eggs Benedict – two poached farm fresh eggs, English muffin, house hollandaise sauce, avocado and roasted red pepper. Try adding back bacon; it’s a nice addition to the exotic vegetarian Benny. For those sensitive to gluten, add a gluten-free English muffin for only $2!

Another favourite is the fruit, yogurt & granola – assorted fresh fruits, plain yogurt and homemade granola. This otherwise bland home-made dish is brought to life at Dairy Lane Café, a great way to kick start your day with full servings of fruits and fibre. Weeds Café

  • Address – 1903 20th Avenue SW
  • Phone Number – 403-282-7940

This quaint little café serves some of the best breakfast in NW Calgary. Weeds Café is a family owned and operated business that prides itself on providing customers with only the best homemade foods and imported coffees.

Weeds is one of the most affordable Calgary breakfasts you’ll find; the most expensive item on their menu goes for around $8. Found just off the beaten path in Capitol Hill, it’s one of the best places to grab a quick gourmet coffee and home baked pastry before your day begins.

Try combining one of their 49th Parallel Coffee’s with a freshly made baked apple strudel – this tandem is surprisingly filling and scrumptious to boot.

Best Breakfast in NW Calgary Vendome CafeVendome Cafe

Another small, popular café located a few minutes from the Kensington business district in Sunnyside, serving some of the best breakfast in NW Calgary. Vendome Café is well known for its gourmet, yet affordable breakfast / brunch that keeps customers coming back for more every time.

Vendome offers its breakfast and brunch menu until 5:00pm which is absolutely fantastic for those who would prefer having their morning meal later in the day. My favourite is the whole wheat blueberry waffles – pretty self explanatory with syrup and vanilla whip on top, a must try if your big on waffles smothered in all kinds of tastiness.

Johns Breakfast & Lunch

  • Address – A-2614 4th Street NW
  • Phone Number – 403-277-0255

Long line-ups at restaurants are a blatant indicator of just how good their food, drink and service is. John’s is one of those places that you’ll visit on the weekends and find a line-up that goes around the corner of the building – but then and again the wait is worth it!

My favourite is their loaded omelette – cheese, ham, onion, peppers, tomatoes and bacon, served with crispy hash browns and your choice of toast. What more could you ask for?

Well, good prices of course. John’s affordable menu and delicious food makes it home to some of the best breakfast in NW Calgary. Find out what you’re missing this weekend!

Hidden in the community of Silver Springs is Café Le Matin, another restaurant with some of the best breakfast in NW Calgary.

The family run café offers your traditional breakfast eats, hot drinks and has awesome specials that will leave your stomach and your pocketbook happy.

My favourite was the home-made eggs Benedict – two poached eggs on top of an English muffin covered in house special hollandaise sauce, served with crispy hash browns, strawberries, apples and oranges, a must try for breakfast lovers!

Bread lovers; make your way to the Lazy Loaf & Kettle for some of the best bread in town! Paired with almost all breakfast meals are a few slices of thick and savoury homemade bread that will make you wonder where the Lazy Loaf & Kettle has been all your life.
