Top 3 Hotpot Restaurants in Calgary, ABYour Source Best in Calgary Alberta

Have you heard of hotpot before? It seems that hotpot isn’t a hugely popular style of dining in Calgary just yet. I mean… a few years ago Japanese Ramen wasn’t either, but today there’s more ridiculously good ramen restaurants than I can count on one hand.

Much like ramen, hotpot originated from Asia. It quickly became a signature dish of China then spread to Mongolia and eventually to places like Calgary many years later, and thankfully so! If you love a good bowl of Vietnamese pho or Japanese ramen, Chinese hotpot may also be right up your foodie alley.

Most hotpot restaurants are all-you-can-eat and come with one charge per person; however, if you like to dine like a king, there’s always additional food and drink choices you can make that will enhance your hotpot experience every time.

Here’s Calgaryism’s list of best hotpot restaurants in Calgary. Leave us a comment below and let us know which one is your favourite. We will add it to the list!

Located in Chinatown, 1 Pot is one of the best hotpot restaurants in Calgary because of its dedication to quality ingredients, good service and a clean atmosphere. Those are basically the three key ingredients to making any restaurant a good one, and they nailed it.

One thing I really like about 1 Pot compared to the other hotpot restaurants on this list is the amount of choice you have on the menu. Little Sheep is the only other that comes somewhat close.

Another thing I love about 1 Pot is the sheer selection of sauces they have at the do-it-yourself sauce station. I usually make two bowls: one spicy, one mild, the first usually being a mix of sate, chili peppers and oil and the second some kind of concoction usually with sesame seed, ginger and onion.

A third reason why 1 Pot is one of the best hotpot restaurants in Calgary is because of its quality of ingredients. When you order meat, you don’t get nasty gristly chicken or fatty beef (unless you choose the fatty beef!). Also, the vegetables are always fresh which makes for a ridiculously good hotpot every time I’ve been!

If you’ve never been to hotpot before, 1 Pot is a good place to go for your very first hotpot experience in Calgary!

Why I Like It

  • More affordable
  • Set serving but more than enough
  • Variety of bubble tea and milk tea drinks
  • Quality ingredients
  • Café style

Descriptionlarge hot pot bowl centre street hot pot calgary alberta

Centre Street Japanese Hot Pot has received raving reviews by many people who like to do hotpot but without the hefty all-you-can-eat charge. For around $20.00 you get a large serving of noodles of your choice (rice, glass, udon, ramen, instant), a choice of meat (beef, lamb, pork, chicken) and assorted veggies. Upgrade to a large for a few bucks gets you two meat selections.

Overall the food quality is quite good and in big proportions; you get your money’s worth at Centre Street Japanese Hot Pot. Don’t be concerned about its set serving size as you’ll be full for sure before you step outside its doors.

As far as the service goes, this hotpot restaurant has a cafe style theme where you go up to a drink station and refill water and iced tea on your own. This might be a bonus for those who tend to drink a lot of water (like myself), but not so much for others who expect service when dining out.

Descriptionmongolian best hotpot restaurants calgary alberta

This rather large hotpot restaurant is in Pacific Place Mall in the northeast community of Franklin. Walking in you’ll notice a massive seating area with lots of comfortable booths along the perimeter and more than enough space between tables.

One thing that Little Sheep Mongolian Hot Pot does better than the rest of the restaurants on this list is service. Our drinks were filled to the top almost immediately after we finished them, and our servers were very attentive with our food orders – but not obnoxiously so.

The menu is considerably large, but there’s nearly a third of a page of selections that cost extra to order some of which were food items that would have been included at 1 Pot. Still though, there’s more than enough meats and veggies to choose from without getting bored. Overall the food quality is good and the broth flavourful and they give you the option of a small and large hotpot with either one or two flavours. We also liked the bottomless refreshments.

All around, Little Sheep Mongolian Hot Pot is a good experience and has enough selection and quality food to make your dining experience enjoyable.

I Love Hotpot!
