Calgary Condo Guide to Understanding Different Types of Condominiums

When you are buying a condominium in Calgary you want to have all the information available and make the most informed buying decision. Below I have compiled some technical definitions of the different types of condos you may be looking at. The most common types will be the Townhouse, Apartment Hi Rise and Apartment Low Rise. Here are the quick definitions to assist you with your search:

Calgary Condominium “Type” Definitions

  • Attch (residential attached): any unit that is attached and is not a townhouse.
  • Townh (townhouse): individual family units (2 or more) that are lined up in a row and often will have a small yard.
  • Aptlo (apartment low rise): a building that is no higher than five (5) stories.
  • Apthi (apartment high rise): a building that has more than five (5) stories.
  • Stack (stacked townhouses): two units that are “stacked” one on top of the other and joined in symmetrical or asymmetrical configuration.
