Head Offices in Canada
When you look at Canada's major cities, I'm sure most would assume that Toronto would be the leader for corporate headquarters.
Most would be right but not by every metric or some would say the most important yard stick either. Although Toronto has more offices by volume (35% of the top 500 Corporate headquarters in Canada are in Toronto). According to the Fraser Institute that number does not measure the corporate head quarter activity as there are many other factors to consider.
With Canadas youngest population, leading job growth, migration and economic growth, Calgary is the leader per capita.
The Fraser Institute says that the best way to properly measure corporate headquarter activity is to adjust for population. By that measure Calgary is the Canadian leader in concentration of corporate headquarters. With 6.0 corporate head office’s per 100,000 people!
Here is the list in order of head offices per 100,000 people:
- Calgary: 6.0 per 100,000 people
- Toronto: 3.0 , per 100,000 people
- Montreal: 2.1 per 100,000 people
- Vancouver: 2.0 per 100,000 people
- Winnipeg: 1.9 per 100,000 people
