What is a “Chinook” ?

The weather term "chinook" refers to a phenomenon that occurs when the air rising over the mountains coming from the pacific ocean and British Columbia gives Calgary a short reprieve during winter and we experience a day sometimes two days of much warmer weather. Chinooks are pronounced by a distinct arch in the sky and come every so often during the winter months.
