What is the Red Mile?

The "Red Mile" refers to 17th Avenue S.W. mostly between 4th street and 8th street with Melrose Cafe and Bar being the unofficial Red Mile Headquarters. The Red Mile originated in the 2003-2004 NHL season when the Calgary Flames made it all the way to game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals as massive underdogs. In the process Calgarians celebrating the Flames winning ways would congregate and party all up and down the street which hence came to be known as the "Red Mile"
