    Calgary’s 311 Municipal Hotline

    • June 27, 2016

Dial #311 to Reach Calgary's Community "Hot Line"The Calgary 311 Hotline

3 digit dialing was used only to call 9-1-1 to report life threatening emergencies until the City of Calgary implemented the 3-1-1 phone number back in 2005.

3-1-1 "Citizen Services" is everyone's single point of contact to municipal government information and non-emergency services.

It was the first of its kind in Canada, with two million calls in only 16 months of being active!

Other major Canadian cities including Toronto, Vancouver and Edmonton soon followed the example of Calgary's successful 3-1-1 Citizen Services by starting their very own community hotline.

    More 3-1-1 InformationI love Calgary

3-1-1 is a 24 hour, 7 days a week connection to the City of Calgary, a service by which a real person answers and handles all calls for information or access to city services & programs.

No calls are lost or vanish into "voice mail limbo", something that I'm sure we've all experienced at one point or another with service companies.

The 3-1-1 centre logs and tracks all calls using real-time data which is the basis for the city to make operational decisions on.

More than a phone number, 3-1-1 uses state of the art technology to co-ordinate and assign work orders to field staff spread across 30 different business units.

Requests, whether it be fixing a pothole, requesting a building inspection or reporting a missed garbage pick-up, receive a tracking number which guarantees that the work order gets logged, sent to the right place and is completed on time.

My Personal ExperienceDeerfoot Trail Calgary - Calgaryism Fact 13

I have personally called 3-1-1 to report missing stop signs, road debris on Deerfoot Trail and also to get information on community events for city services and organizations.

One of those numbers that they have readily accessible is the Calgary’s Health Link, a service which provides Calgarian’s information regarding our health sector; from finding a family doctor, to asking the volunteer registered nurses who answer the phone any health related questions.

Also In the event of a disaster, the 3-1-1 Operations Centre becomes the coordinator of disaster communication. When in doubt call 3-1-1!
