Calgaryism's Review of JINYA Ramen Bar, Mission, SW Calgary

A friend was ranting and raving about this new ramen noodle bar that had recently opened its doors for business in Calgary. He said that he had tried one of its locations in the states before and that we had to go check it out for ourselves.

So we did about a week later, and were both very satisfied with our overall ramen experience – so much in fact that we’ve added JINYA Ramen Bar to our list of Best Ramen Noodle Houses in Calgary.

Atmosphere & Service

JINYA Ramen Bar literally had just opened its doors a few weeks prior to our visit, so a newly designed and built ambiance was expected. They nailed it though with the dark color palette, tiled floors and glass walls / entrance way which allows for a well-lit atmosphere and keeps this somewhat small space feeling as open and airy as possible.

In the middle of the restaurant is an open bar and along the perimeter of the glass wall (looking out onto 4th Street SW) are single booth seats good for solo diners. Elsewhere inside are two, four and six person tables, most of which are half booths.

Our service was just okay. I didn’t complain though as there were only two servers for the entire place and one was doubling as the host.

Spicy chicken ramen - $13.25 – chicken broth: chicken chasu, spinach, spicy bean sprouts, green onion – served with thin egg noodles w/ add-ons chicken chasu ($2.95), mushroom ($2.00) – choose your spice level – mild, spicy or hot

JINYA’s hot chicken broth immediately made a strong impression on my taste buds. Its thickness made it feel like it was infused with all other contents of the bowl, enriching the flavour and taste of each ingredient as you ate it. The added mushrooms added another level of depth that I really enjoyed.

I recommend looking at the list of more than a dozen add-on options to customize your bowl and make your experience at JINYA ramen one that will have you coming back for another round.
