New Calgary West LRT Line Opening Soon

New West Calgary LRT LineGood news has come for those living in the southwest quadrant of Calgary close to Bow Trail. The much anticipated new west LRT line in Calgary is set to open very soon on December 10th, 2012.

It is expected that over 30,000 Calgarians will choose to use the service as a means of transportation, meaning less motor vehicles and traffic. Even though a decrease in traffic levels might not be noticeable by any means, the new west LRT line will increase the efficiency of public transportation for the city of Calgary.

The humongous construction project includes over 8 kilometers of new track leading to 6 new C-Train terminals and has been cause to other construction ventures including a new high school, traffic overpasses and pathway networks.

6 New West LRT Stations Locations...

  • Sunalta Terminal – User friendly to Sunalta, Connaught, Shaw Millennium Park and the Bow River pathway network
  • Shaganappi Point Terminal – Close to Upper Scarboro, Shaganappi and Killarney
  • Westbrook Terminal – Near to inner city communities of Killarney, Rosscarrock and Spruce Cliff
  • 45th Street Terminal – User friendly to the Glenbrook, Rosscarrock, Glendale and Westgate neighbourhoods
  • Sirocco Terminal – In close proximity to Signal Hill, Signature Park, Strathcona Park and Christie Park
  • 69th Street Terminal – User friendly for Aspen Woods, Christie Park, Elbow View and Signal Hill

For most living in communities along Bow Trail SW, the news has come as a major relief. Traffic along the main city route has been vamped up exponentially at times due to construction over the past 3 years. Now residents will have the choice to leave the car at home and make use of the new west LRT line to get to where they need to go.

I Love YYC - Calgary AlbertaThe General Manager for the City of Calgary public transportation sector Mac Logan says that the completion of a project of such immense proportions is a feat to be proud of. By constructing all features at once, the time taken to finish the project was reduced dramatically.

Don't Forget to Check Your New Bus Route!!

New revised routes for Calgary Transit buses will come into effect after the opening of the new west LRT in December. If you are a current user of public transportation in Calgary and frequently travel to southwest destinations, be prepared and check the newly revised bus routes.
