New “Phase” Construction Elementary Schools Coming to Three of Calgary's QuadrantsCalgary Inner City Homes Infills Buyers Guide Schools

Good news, local Calgarians! Just last Monday Alberta’s recently elected Premier Jim Prentice announced a $30.6 million dollar commitment to the Calgary Board of Education (CBE).

Details include a new million dollar high school in southern Calgary, modular classrooms for early accommodation of students as well as a large lump sum for the construction of four elementary schools in Aspen Woods, Cranston, West Springs / Cougar Ridge and Saddle Ridge.

Each school will be built in phases, host anywhere from 250 to 350 students and include:

  • 10 modular classrooms
  • Activity and washroom facilities
  • Office and storage spaces

Families living in Aspen Woods, Cougar Ridge, West Springs, Saddle Ridge and Cranston will be happy to know that new elementary schools are now in the works.

News of new schools should increase the appeal of these neighbourhoods to those looking for an elementary within their neighbourhood – something that many home buyers consider nowadays - especially those planning on having children in the near future.

In-community elementary schools make life quite convenient for parents and children and foster a tight-knit learning and social atmosphere throughout one of the most important parts of childhood.

While the new “starter” schools have come under fire from opposition parties, the Conservatives have mentioned that they will be quality learning environments where Alberta’s youth will be educated to the same degree as any other school in the province.

Joy Bowen-Eyre, a board chairwoman for the CBE, mentioned that the starter schools are a “…great start…” and that “…we would like to have those starter-schools built as full-schools as soon as possible”. – Calgary Sun

According to Jim Prentice, Calgary will gain approximately 5,000 new students every year over the next seven years. In reality, as provincial population continues to grow that estimate could very likely increase even more so.

The four new elementary schools should be finished construction by sometime in 2016.
