Peking Garden Varsity Calgary Restaurant Review

Peking Garden Soup CalgaryChinese food is a dime a dozen. Most of the Chinese restaurants I have been to have Chinese food so westernized it’s not even Chinese food anymore.

But Peking Garden in Varsity does a good job of keeping traditional cuisines while offering the best of the western style food most of us love. And this family run restaurant doesn’t just do it for a few of your visits; their consistency with service and quality of food is always top notch.

Every time I head to Peking Garden in Varsity, I get a large bowl of hot and sour soup with no pork, extra tofu and no MSG. It is my absolute favorite! I cannot describe how delightful this soup is. Try adding a little bit of red wine and vinegar if the chef didn’t make it as sweet as you’d like it. Be prepared for a spicy flavour!

One appetizer that goes well with the soup is the spring rolls. They might be lacking a bit on the ingredients when compared to other rolls I have had, but definitely tie your stomach over well enough before the main course arrives.

For the main course I usually order steamed rice, palace style chicken, a black bean vegetable plate and a noodle. As for western Chinese cuisine, a plate of salt and pepper squid or ginger chicken is always satisfying. It’s really up to you to mix and match what you want to eat because Peking Garden has an extensive menu with so many delicious items! Ask your server for some help and they will be happy to help you.

If a bunch of plates isn’t what you want, and you are looking for a small, all inclusive plate, then ask your server about their single plate. It comes with rice and two items for a very low cost. I usually get steamed rice, palace style chicken and veggies with black bean sauce. The amount of food on the plateill surely fill any person’s stomach.

If you are in the area of Varsity, then stop in at Peking Garden for some delicious Chinese food! Find Peking Garden north on Shaganappi Trail if you are at Market Mall or south on Shaganappi Trail if you are at North Land Mall. I highly recommend this restaurant!
