1600 World Bier Haus in Glenmore Landing

It was a warm summer’s day and I was famished. Driving down 14th Street SW, I was reminded of 1600 World Bier Haus in Glenmore Landing I had visited with a friend a few months back. I was extremely pleased to see the restaurant empty as I walked in, thinking my order would come quickly. But sure enough the sun was out and almost everyone at 1600 at that specific moment had decided that a table on the patio would be best. It was completely packed and I was surprised to see the size of the patio as it was almost as big as the restaurant’s inside! No big deal I guess...but my stomach wasn’t happy, until my food came that is...

I ordered a salad to start – the haus cob – artisan greens, free range chicken, rendered bacon, baby corn, bermuda onions, tomatoes, feta cheese and cobb dressing. Corn was a dominating taste, something I don’t necessarily like in a salad but the juicy chicken breast and other ingredients evened it out enough to be somewhat enjoyable. A bonus was the large serving size; the haus cobb was HUGE!

For the main course I chose the feta meatballs & spaghettini – haus meatballs, haus marinara, spaghettini, fresh basil, feta cheese and man oh man, this dish I just couldn’t get enough of it. It wasn’t too sweet, was rich in tomato flavour and had a very stimulating taste untypical for spaghetti. I am not sure what ingredient made the flavor of this dish so pleasant, but I can honestly say it was one of the best spaghetti’s I have had in Calgary.

On top of the great food at 1600 World Bier Haus, my busy servers were extremely friendly and the eating atmosphere is just as good. Inside has modern finishings, dim lighting, HD TV’s, bar section but the patio could have used some work. My table was uneven to begin with so I used some cup coasters to even it out and the three prong base made the table very unstable. My recommendation; be careful when putting your weight on the table!

Overall 1600 World Bier Haus in Glenmore Landing was a very pleasant restaurant experience in Calgary with delicious food, great servers and a decent atmosphere. I will definitely visit it again to try some of their interesting menu items.
