Are You Relocating Homes? Don't Be Stressed About It!Tips to Reduce Moving Stress Relocation Stress

Are you in the middle of a move or planning on relocating to somewhere else in the near future? While moving to Calgary or any other place for that matter can be as exciting as it gets, there also can be much moving stress involved.

Fortunately, some preparation can go a long ways in making your relocation process go as smoothly as possible - and without any unnecessary stress! Here are some simple tips to help you reduce your moving stress.

Moving to Calgary with Children#1 - Organization Kills Stress

It’s easy to become unorganized when you’re in the midst of a stressful situation. Important matters can easily get swept under the rug for the time being until the stress subsides and when relocating, that’s the last thing you want.

Keeping organized is the best way to deal with frustration or other unforeseen problems because it gives us a sense of control over the situation and focuses our attention on the matter at hand.

The best way to stay organized is to make a checklist of tasks and anything else you deem necessary to write down, such as:

  • Pick up / drop off times for children
  • Arrival times of movers (if applicable)
  • What tasks still needs to be done
  • What tasks have been done
  • Phone numbers of service companies

Seeing it all on paper will give you peace of mind that nothing is being forgotten and that you're fully organized for the move.

#2 - Prioritize Tasks

Eliminate as much moving stress as you can by prioritizing daily activities. Choose what needs to be finished right away and what can be put off until later, but make sure you don't procrastinate!

It’s important to get as much of the heavy tasks done as soon as possible such as packing, contacting your service providers, finding the right moving company and saying goodbye to loved ones.

#3 - Get Professional AdviceFinding the Right Calgary Realtor

If you're moving to another place entirely, like to Calgary, for example, moving stress can be substantially reduced by getting in touch with a moving expert - a real estate agent in your destination city who will help you find the best home for you and your family.

You’ll want to look for someone who has experience and knows the city inside and out, a person who goes above and beyond the standard of duty to make your relocation experience as smooth and stress-free as possible.

The best way to do this is to ask friends and family if they’ve had a pleasant experience with an agent in your destination of choice, or search online for terms such as “moving to Calgary” or “relocation realtor Calgary” for example and find client reviews.

#4 - Give Yourself Extra Time

A little bit of extra time to do those necessary tasks for relocation can go a long ways in helping reduce your moving stress.

This falls into prioritizing as moving usually means the schedule is jam packed with things to do, so reshuffling your daily activities to make some extra time for tasks or relaxation is a must!

Relocating to Calgary Labelled Box#5 - Label Boxes

Don’t let that moving stress get the best of you! Pack your things neatly and in labelled boxes, it will greatly reduce your “cortisol levels” on the other end of the move, where you’ll likely be tired and drained from the whole moving process.

Labelled boxes makes it easy to unload - whether you have movers or not - making it well worth the time to do before hand.

#6 - Find the Right Moving CompanyRelocating company scams

This is one of the most important parts of any move. Finding the right moving company for the job is essential in having peace of mind throughout you’re relocation.

Here are a few tips:

  • Do thorough research online, use established companies
  • Read reviews on Google and other review sites
  • Ask word-a-mouth, friends and family you know for referral
  • Get an all-inclusive contract and read every single line of it
  • Ask about their insurance policies if something is damaged

Also make sure you don’t fall victim to a moving scam as that would send your moving stress levels through the roof!

#7 - Talk to Someone

A simple, yet very effective way to help alleviate moving stress! Talk to someone you trust about what is stressing you out and why. Afterwards you’ll feel like weights have been removed off your shoulders.

#8 - Talk to Your ChildrenRelocating to Calgary Preschoolers Toddlers

Moving your children away from their friends / school / community can be extremely tough, but there are steps you can take to make it easier on them (and you)!

One of these things is communication. Let them know that relocating is a must do and that it will be better for them afterwards. Listen to what they have to say and reassure them with positive feedback.

Also moving with newborn babies or toddlers is another situation of its own. See our Guide to Moving with Toddlers or Preschoolers for more great tips!
