Top 3 Late Night Eateries in Connaught Calgary

You could say the best thing about downtown living is the concept of “live, work and play”. No district in Calgary embodies this concept quite as well as the beltline community of Connaught.

The convenience of having your home, job, and favorite spots all within a few city blocks is simply invaluable.

With all that the beltline has to offer, one of the best amenities is the late night snacking options!

The top three places to eat in Connaught late at night are unarguably Clive Burger, Singapore Sam’s, and the Big Cheese.

Clive Burger

Clive Burger on 17th Avenue SW offers a simple burger that is neither fast food nor gourmet. It is a classic American burger made-to-order and served counter-style with a smile.

The burgers are 1/4 pound all-natural Alberta beef, ground from whole muscle cuts with absolutely “no filler, no trim and no yucky stuff!”

The cool part about Clive is that they use local ingredients whenever possible, including 100% antibiotic & hormone-free Alberta beef. The fries are delicious and made from scratch, but the best accoutrement to the burger and fries is the Clive signature custard shakes. Mmmmmhm!

The second coolest thing about Clive is that they are GREEN! All of their packaging is 100% compostable and sent to a local facility to be turned into usable compost!

You can feel good about reducing your carbon foot print too by walking from you favorite beltline bar to Clive for some delicious late night eats, and then walking home to your nearby downtown condo!

Singapore Sam's

Singapore Sam’s is a well established restaurant with over 28 years of service in the Calgary community!

They serve a full menu of delicious Peking-style food, offer a huge lunch and dinner buffet, and also have a full Mongolian grill. They cater to a rather civilized lunch and dinner crowd, but in the late night this hot spot transforms into a full out 90’s dance party.

Often times you’ll find patrons dancing on the tables to songs like YMCA; it’s truly an unofficial after party every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The food comes quickly and the selection is impressive. Table hopping is common and so is banging your chopsticks on the tables like total juvenile delinquents.

I wonder if the late night “club” environment attributed to Singapore Sam’s winning of The Herald's Readers' Choice and Consumer Choice Awards?

You know what they say about Chinese food; you eat till you’re past the point of full and within about an hour you want more! Well, lucky you if you live in any of the condos in Connaught, you’ll be back to party soon.

The Big Cheese

The Big Cheese has a motto and it’s “to bring poutine to the masses using the best and freshest French fries, authentic Quebec cheese curds, and an assortment of high-quality gravies.” - You’ve got to respect that mission statement.

You can also respect that they locally-source their products to create flavor combinations like nothing you have ever tasted before.

If you’ve danced your brains out at a nearby downtown bar, then feel free to indulge at this casual and comfortable quick-service restaurant. You will be surrounded by everyone else coming down from their party highs oooing and awwwing over each others selections and fabulous finds on the menu.

They offer the most traditional style poutine, vegetarian options, and lots of meaty creations too.

You can go crazy with any amount of toppings or you can choose from pre-designed poutiness like the NOTORIOUS P.I.G (Carolina pulled pork, double smoked bacon and Italian sausage), the PORKY PIG (Double smoked bacon, Italian sausage, sautéed mushrooms and caramelized onions) or HOGZILLA (Carolina pulled pork, double smoked bacon and peppercorn gravy).

Whatever you’re selection, be glad your bed is close by. You’re going to need to hit the pillows soon after this indulgence.
