    Canada Day 2014 is Here, Time to Celebrate Calgary!Canada Day 2014 Calgary Alberta

    Canada Day is a celebration of our great country and rich heritage.

    Show your Canadian pride by wearing red and white, proudly waving the Canada flag and loudly singing “O’Canada” on Canada’s birthday!

    Check out these local events on July 1st:

    Fort Calgary

    • 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

    Fort Calgary, the birthplace of our city, is hosting a fun-filled day for the family with a complimentary pancake breakfast (for the first 1,500 guests), jumping horses, pony rides, petting zoo and performances by Samantha Savage Smith, Souls in Rhythm, Tim Hus and more.

    Free shuttle bus service from and to Fort Calgary, Olympic Park and Prince’s Island Park. Outdoor events are free and 50% off admission inside Fort Calgary.

    First Nations PowwowDowntown Calgary Princes Island Park

    • Prince’s Island Park
    • 9:30 am – 6:00 pm

    Come learn more about the First Nations people through story-telling, music and dance.

    Prince’s Island Park is transformed into a dance party when the pow wow commences with traditional dancing and drumming.

    Canada Day and 50th Birthday Celebration

    • Heritage Park
    • 10:00 am – 11:00 pm

    Surprise! It’s also Heritage Park’s 50th birthday and they are celebrating in style kicking off the festivities with a pancake breakfast (free for the first 2014 guests), live music and dance, magicians and mini chuck wagon races.

    Get the entire family to participate in traditional games including tug-of-war, potato sack race and egg-in-spoon race.

    Instead of blowing out candles on a cake, Heritage Park will make a great big wish by lighting the sky with fireworks when the sun sets.

    Calgary Chinese Cultural CentreCalgary Chinese Cultural Centre

    • 10:30 am – 4:00 pm

    Chinatown was one the hardest hit areas during last year’s flood.

    Come support the neighbourhood by checking out the art exhibitions and dazzling performances at the Chinese Cultural Centre.

    From 4:00 pm – 11:00 pm, peruse the streets for good eats, merchandise and entertainment at the Night Market.

    Downtown Calgary Family Event

    • 11:00 am – 4:00 pm
    • Olympic Plaza

    This free gigantic birthday party will have something for the entire family: circus training, trampolines, DJ lessons and performances by the Calgary Youth Chorus.

    If you’re born on July 1st then you are invited to the BIP (Birthday Important Person) tent for prizes and treats.

    Downtown CalgaryStephen Avenue Walk Calgary Activities

    • Stephen Avenue
    • 11:00 am – 4:00 pm

    Cruise down Stephen Avenue and support local artists selling artwork for local charities.

    If the sun is out, grab a brewski and bite at any of the outdoor patios including Local, Libertine or Original Joe’s. Also see these Best Patios in Calgary.

    East Village Street Fair

    • Various locations in East Village
    • 11:00 am – 5:00 pm

    The up and coming trendy neighbourhood East Village will be filled with live music, delicious eats and arts and crafts vendors.

    For the car lovers, brace yourself with the extensive collection of antique and vintage cars displayed in Fort Calgary.

    Food Truck FestivalCalgary Food Trucks

    • Festival Market
    • 5:00 pm – 11:00 pm

    Selection for dinner or late night eats has expanded with the multitude of food trucks taking over Festival Market – located between YMCA and Eau Claire Market in downtown.

    Satisfy your taste buds with beef satay or spring rolls from The Happy Truck or the truffle butternut squash mac and cheese at Farm Girls.

    Riverfront Stage

    • Harry Hays Building
    • 6:00 pm – 11:00 pm

    Get your groove on with performances from Canadian artists Scarlett Jane, Ridley Bent, Michael Bernard Fitzgerald and Mother Mother.

    At 10:45 pm, the city skyline is splashed with the highly anticipated fireworks synchronized with live music broadcasted on 101.5 Kool FM and 95.3 The Peak.

    Grab your blanket or lawn chair along the Bow River for the best seats in the city.
