Dates for One or for Two

Love it or loathe it, Valentine’s weekend is fast approaching and the pressure is on to either find a date, impress a date, or come up with an excuse for why you were waaaay too busy to go on a date anyway!  To that end, I’m dedicating this article to sharing some singles-inclusive Valentine events that will let you fall in love with love whether you’re flying solo, with your besties, or on the arm of your number-one crush.

Fake It ‘Til You Make It

A no-experience-necessary improv workshop guaranteed to improve your love life, even if you don’t have one! Now that’s a promise I can get behind! This playful, love-themed workshop is perfect for fun-loving singles or couples. Not quite as scary as it sounds, the art of improvisational theatre is the art of performing with little or no pre-planning. Maybe you’ve seen Drew Carey’s show Whose Line is It Anyway?, or watched theatre sports at Calgary’s Loose Moose Theatre? Improv is sort of like that, but don’t worry, you don’t have to be as funny as Colin Mochrie to have a blast at this event!

    Just Dance!

Nothing promises romance quite like Latin dancing! Turn up the heat this weekend with a free dance class by Havana Cuban Dance Studio instructors and then groove the night away to the best Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, top 40 and Latin house. Again, go with your favorite dance partner, or meet someone new. Calgary’s Just Dance Meetup group will be there on the 15th, so it doesn’t get any easier that that. Just join the group (totally free) on the meetup.com website, RSVP for the February 15th event, and they’ll keep an eye out for you. The Just Dance meetup group is an ultra-friendly, inclusive group of 20-60 year olds – single and not – who like to go out dancing and have a great time. I have so many great things to say about meetup groups that I’ll save them for another article!

So, couples, why not try something a little different this year? And singles, help me start a movement. Put away the Häagen-Dazs and the Bridgit Jones DVD and be seen – on a date for one – enjoying your fabulous city. Not because you might meet somebody, but because you’ll probably have a fantastic time regardless!

Hope to see you out there!

    Your artsy fartsy friend,

    Fiona
