The onset of the fall season doesn’t have to be dull - like its weather often is - as Calgary’s burgeoning cultural scene provides a full list of exciting festivals for all of us to enjoy.
Here are Calgaryism’s top festival picks for October 2014:
Autumn Pumpkin Festival
- When - October 4th, 5th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 18th, 19th from 10:00am to 5:00pm

The Autumn Pumpkin Festival has become an annual tradition for many local families looking to have some pure unadulterated family fun.
One of the most exciting events is the PUMPKIN DESTRUCTION ZONE where kids will get to smash, stomp and destroy pumpkins however they like.
Not all pumpkins will get destroyed though, as pumpkin decoration is another popular activity among the imaginative kids at the Autumn Pumpkin Festival. Other activities include:
- Arts and crafts
- Cornstalk scarecrow making
- Giant corn mazes
- Jumping pillows
- Pig races
- Mini-golf
Also be sure to check out the unique set of pre-carved jack-o-lanterns on display and for sale which also present an opportunity for some awesome family photos!
Fluid Festival

Showcasing talent from around the globe, the Fluid Festival will take you on an intriguing journey into the arts of dance and music.
National and International talents include:

- Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers
- Sore for Punching You from Toronto
- Tentacle Tribe from Montreal
- Katie Ward from Montreal
Plus a number of local artists from Calgary:
- Dancing Monkey Lab

There will also be a number of workshops run by most of these artists as well as times to get up close and personal with them at various times and locations during the festival.

Calgary Rocky Mountain Wine and Food Festival
- When – October 17th – 18th, 2014, various times
- Where – Stampede Park BMO Centre – 20 Roundup Way SE

As the name implies, the Calgary Rocky Mountain Wine and Food Festival is a celebration of food and wine in the shadow of the beautiful Rockies.
Inside of the BMO Centre will be the “The Grand Tasting Hall” where visitors can find a massive array of sampling stations – more than 200 – showcasing a diverse collection of wines, beers, alcohols and cuisines from all over the globe.
Alberta’s largest celebration of food and wine is waiting for you! Oh, and one quick reminder, this event is for adults only.
The Calgary Tattoo & Arts Festival

Good news for all the tattoo buffs and artists out there… the 11th annual Calgary Tattoo and Arts Festival is almost here!
