East Village in Calgary is an up and coming urban community set in the heart of the city, directly east of the downtown business core where you will find a well balanced mix of commercial, residential and retail buildings. Residential developments consist of townhomes and condos and are highly sought after on today’s real estate market. Population density in East Village demands proper amenities and services, and the developing partners involved in its redevelopment will surely provide to make the master planned community live up to all the hype.

Okay, so we already know about the National Music Centre and the new Hilton Hotel. These are great additions and are a part of the ever increasing amenity list at East Village. But what about some of the basics? Living in a central, walk able community demands access to necessities like food, entertainment and retail without having to drive. Not to worry, chances are whatever residents are looking for will be found in the main levels of the numerous mid-rises found in the community.

Finding a centrally situated grocery store is likely, where residents can walk to within minutes. Also, retail shops will be strategically situated on its streetscapes, but as far as what and who, we will just have to wait and see. The possibility of having a new movie theatre built in East Village is likely, but once again, we will just have to wait and see. Such a high concentration of people in the new downtown community surely will provide these amenities and services with more than enough customers.

East Village is set to be a popular destination for tourists and for Calgarians, so expect to see these things mentioned and more when all is said and done. I can’t imagine the Calgary Municipal Lands Corporation would ignore incorporating these into it's master plan.
