Calgary Parks - Edgemont Ravine
Calgary parks are part of what makes living here so enjoyable to begin with.
They are the interconnecting fabric between neighbourhoods, just like water is to the ocean, without them, no places to relax and enjoy the serenity of a natural landscape in the midst of a city community.
A prime example of how Calgary parks make communities very enjoyable places to live would be the Edgemont Ravine.
Located in the serene northwest Calgary neighbourhood of Edgemont, the ravine separates older and newer phases of development and is accessible in just minutes of walking from any home.
Inside its boundaries you will find a beautiful array of lush vegetation, diverse wildlife and a range of outdoor amenities including tennis courts, picnic tables, benches, playgrounds, statues and sheltering pergolas.

Starting Point
A good starting point for a trek on the Edgemont ravine is at the tennis courts found on the corner of Edgemont Boulevard and Edgepark Boulevard NW.
Heading northwest from there leads towards the best part of the Edgemont ravine. Less than a kilometre away is a crossroads, stick to the right path, the left leads up to a community street.
It takes only 10 minutes or so to get there after passing the three way crossroad, although some people choose to stop and enjoy various sight seeing points and other features along the way.
The ravine heads north all the way down to Shagannapi Trail NW which marks the end.
There are two options to get back to the tennis courts. One, to simply walk back on the same path. The second, to walk down past Shagannapi Trail into MacEwan and head towards Nose Hill Park, then head back up to Edgemont Boulevard.
This would be a much longer walk, but hey, you'll get to experience two of the best Calgary parks at the same time and nice weather will make it that much more enjoyable. Maybe you'll even see a deer or two!
Edgemont ravine is definitely one of my favourite Calgary parks found within a community. It is the epitome of what living in Calgary is like, with countless pathways and parks found all over the city in tons of neighbourhoods new and old.
