The spring and summer months bring about exciting activities and events throughout our city, including many festivals geared towards children, adults and everyone in between.
I don’t know about you, but I’ve been looking forward to getting out to a few more with family and friends this May than I usually do. Here’s a few May festivals + events in Calgary that should catch you and your family’s attention:
Jurassic Quest

Jurassic Quest is an insanely huge event featuring almost anything and everything any dinosaur enthusiast could imagine!
Humongous dinosaur displays, walking and talking dinosaurs, themed rides, exhibit tours, fossil digs, arts and crafts, face painting and bouncy houses are just some of what you’ll find at this exciting Calgary event in May down at the Stampede Grounds.
VIP tickets for children ages 2 to 12 at $36 USD (about $48 CAD) sound like your best bet if you’re in for the full dino experience.
Otafest 2019

One of our city’s best cosplay festivals is just around the corner! Otafest is a 3-Day Japanese cultural and animation festival in May happening down at the TELUS Convention Centre – also one of our city’s best venues for events like this!
Buy merchandise, play games, cosplay your heart out, join a community, meet industry celebrities and eat / drink until the moon is blue. With more than 100 hours of programming facilitated by special guests, community members, fans and staff, you’ll be entertained the entire time you’re there.
Water Lantern Festival

Calgary’s Olympic Plaza will be hosting the Water Lantern Festival on Saturday, May 25th, a great event for people of all ages and from all walks of life.
This May festival in Calgary is a celebration of life with proceeds going towards local non-profit organizations and charities. It’s happening in multiple cities throughout Canada and the world, including: Vancouver, Regina, Hamilton, Mississauga, Montreal, Ottawa and Quebec.
All tickets come with your own floating lantern, commemorative drawstring bag, wristband and marker.
