3 Fun Ways to Fulfill Your New Year’s Fitness Resolution
New Year’s fitness resolutions are a great way to start off fresh; however, sometimes they are not always the easiest commitments to keep.
We may begin to lose our determination or perhaps become too busy to continue a regimented fitness schedule a few weeks or months into the New Year.
Whatever the reason is, if you can identify a type of fitness activity that you thoroughly enjoy then it is much more likely you will fulfill your New Year’s fitness commitments and show up at that next Christmas party as a new person, with a new body that is!
Here are three different fitness activities indoors that are so fun, they will help you pull off your New Year’s fitness goals without even realizing you’re working out!
Break a Sweat at Spin Class
When it comes to cardiovascular exercise in the winter, you basically have four options:
- Treadmill
- Bike
- Elliptical (or some variation)
- Stair machine
Or, if you’re a die-hard outdoor runner, you can always do that too although it is recommended to stay indoors as ice and snow can cause unforeseen hazards and result in injury.
While all these indoor exercises are a great way to stay in shape, one of the best, most formidable fat burning options is spin class!
A typical class goes for anywhere from 45 to 60 minutes and depending on the instructor may be more or less challenging. The great thing about these classes is that the bikes are adjusted manually so you can set your own difficulty and gradually build up your fitness level. Will you sweat? Oh yeah! Make sure to bring a water bottle and a towel to wipe your head.
Most gyms around Calgary have free spin classes for their members. These classes are also available to non-members but at a cost. Call your local gym today, and get started sweating that fat away this new year!
Stretch Out at Hot Yoga
Yoga is an all-inclusive work out to do with your mind, body, and soul that will push you to your fitness limit every time. It is an ancient discipline originating in India countless years ago and is now offered at many studious in and around Calgary.
The great thing about Yoga is that there are many different difficulty levels and types of Yoga classes – one favourite is hot Yoga where participants practice in a warm, humid room that helps them to become more flexible.
I personally love hot Yoga as it is an ultimate reprieve from the cold winter here in Calgary. When you enter that room and begin with your instructor, it’s almost as if you are transported back into ancient India where it is hot, humid, and mastery of the mind, body, and soul was something that people had striven for every day.
But don’t be fooled, hot Yoga can be extremely challenging and is usually a type of class people work up to. If you do choose to do this fitness activity, make sure to keep yourself completely hydrated throughout as De-hydration in such an ambiance could not be good for your body!
Be Nimble and Rock Climb
One of the most a-typical fitness activities you’ll find in Calgary is rock climbing. At first, it can be a daunting sport especially for those wary of heights, but once you get used to it, it can be a whole lot of fun. Hey, it may just be that activity that will break that fear of heights you or someone you know may have!
For first-timers, a session begins with instruction on how to use the equipment where you will also be informed on safety and be given some tips and tricks for climbing. After that, the challenge begins… choose a wall of difficulty that matches your skill (or perhaps your ego) and see if you can topple the rock wall.
