Ikemen Ramen Bar Calgary Restaurant Reviewikemen ramen japanese restaurant calgary alberta

Boy, oh boy… if you’re a fan of Japanese ramen noodles by any means then you will definitely want to put Ikemen Ramen Bar on your bucket list of to-try places in Calgary.

Let’s just say that both Menyatai and Muku – two other Japanese ramen restaurants in the Kensington area - now have some pretty stiff competition when it comes to delicious egg noodle soup.

    Atmosphere & Service

As one of Kensington’s newest restaurants, Ikemen Ramen’s contemporary interior was built to provide its customers with a highly comfortable and enjoyable eating atmosphere.

Inside feels very spacious and there is more than a few feet between every table which is nice for those occasions when some privacy between you and company is much appreciated.

For those eating alone, Ikemen has six single bar seats at the front of the restaurant looking out onto the street which are great for being mildly entertained by what’s happening outside as you solo wait for your order while probably checking out the feed on all your social media accounts in between.

The three times I have been here the service has been great to excellent. On one occasion, I asked the waitress to give me a bowl of something spicy with chicken and she nailed it with the spicy miso ramen with extra chicken chasu on top – spicy lovers got to try this soup!

Our OrdersIkemen ramen miso noodle soup kensington calgary

Mushroom Ramen - $13.95 – Kombu shitake broth, assorted mushrooms, yuzu zest, green kale, garlic chips, sesame seeds, green onion with added chicken chasu on top ($3.00 each)

This is the only place I’ve been to in YYC with a mushroom-focused ramen dish, relying on the tastes of two distinctly different mushrooms to bring the flavour of the ramen to fullness.

I would definitely add some chicken or pork chasu on top though as just the noodles and mushrooms aren’t entirely filling – well for me anyways. Also a great choice for vegetarians!

Spicy Miso Ramen - $12.95 – Miso, sous-vide egg, cabbage, green kale, local farm pork and chicken chasu, garlic chips, sesame seeds, green onion

Ikemen’s spicy take on the popular miso ramen dish is one of the best I’ve had in a long time. The soup itself is a stronger, sweeter tasting miso that is complimented well by the fresh onion and kale, cabbage leafs and crunchy garlic chips on top. I would definitely add some extra chicken chasu.

The meat they serve at Ikemen is the highlight of any soup bowl I’ve tried, cooked perfectly and melt-in-your-mouth.

If you are hungry and feel like Japanese noodles, I highly recommend checking out Ikemen Ramen in the Kensington BRZ, it is one place you don’t want to miss!
