    Los Mariachi’s Calgary Restaurant Review

Los Mariachi's Calgary Mexican Restaurant ExteriorHave you ever eaten a food or heard a song that made you remember a very fond time in your life? Well, Los Mariachi’s Restaurant did that to me just a few days ago and needless to say I will be back for more soon enough.

This place made me reminisce of Cabo Pulmo near Los Cabos in Mexico, a small “scuba diving” town where the only restaurants were those created by residents who converted half their homes to accompany hungry tourists like me.

My scuba diving trip to this place would not have been complete without full home-made nacho plates for two dollars made by these very skilled Mexican cooks in their very own kitchens. Oh, and did I say, the nachos were just the beginning of inexplicably delightful authentic cuisines to roll my way that few days?

Anyway, back to Los Mariachi’s Restaurant on Macleod Trail SE. This place will have you screaming for just one more Chimichanga, again and again.

Los Mariachi's Nachos Calgary Restaurant MexicanAtmosphere and Service

One thing I personally enjoy and appreciate when it comes to restaurants serving foreign cuisines is when an effort is made to actually make you feel like you are in that country.

Los Mariachi’s Restaurant really did make you feel like you had stepped into a colorful little Mexican restaurant in Cancun somewhere, even though outside it was clearly gloomy and snowing the whole time.

This “effort” I find helps prepare for the (hopefully) insatiable tastes to come and man oh man Los Mariachi’s Restaurant was right on point.

Our servers were very friendly and helpful with what to choose. They even led a few of my family members (me included) towards ordering the best thing on the menu, a.k.a. “El Cuatro”.

Our FoodEl Cuatro Mariachi's Calgary Restaurant Review

El Cuatro - $19 - chimichanga, fajita, burrito and mole enchilada – if you are in for a little taste of everything at Mariachi’s, definitely get the El Cuatro. While everything on this plate was absolutely delicious, the chimichanga really stood out with its sweet flavour that made you wonder two things: how to get the recipe to make them and how many chimichangas come with one order.

Queso c/CHAMPIGNONES -$11 - mushrooms, melted mozzarella cheese, served with flour or corn tortillas – so basically you take this savoury mix and put it into a flour tortilla. After the first bite I realized I should have got my own – trust me on this one, especially if you are a mushroom fan.

Combinacion Mexicana - $10 - guacamole, salsa Mexicana, pickles, beans and chips – definitely always a great way to start off a night of Mexican, although I did find the salsa a little runny for my liking. But wait, this dish comes with enough home-made guacamole, spicy vegetables and mole sauce to make up for it.

All in all, if you are looking for a wonderful, authentic Mexican cuisine experience in Calgary, definitely head on down to Los Mariachi’s on Macleod Trail SE. You may want to book a reservation as this place is getting hotter and hotter as the weeks go on.
