Menyatai Japanese Ramen Calgary Restaurant Review

Menyatai Japanese Ramen is one hidden gem in the Kensington BRZ you don’t want to miss out on. I’d say it’s the best noodle joint in the entire area to be honest, better than every other pho and ramen place on 10^th Street and along Kensington Road NW, but on the same level as the recently opened Ikemen Ramen Bar.

Here’s how our first experience at Menyatai turned out just a few days back - I’ll definitely be going back for more sometime soon!!

Atmosphere & Service

Inside Menyatai you’ll find a colourful set of chairs, tables and décor that definitely feels a bit teeny boppy… looks pretty cute I guess you could say.

There is a main seating area with small tables compatible for parties of all sizes and also a handful of sushi-bar seats in front of the kitchen, although I have surprisingly never seen Menyatai busy enough to use them.

I was impressed with our servers attention to detail and knowledge of the menu, thought it was kind of funny though when she had to ask her kitchen staff what I meant by “hot sauce”.

But then and again, I quickly found out that I didn’t need any extra flavouring for the delicious bowl of spicy ramen soup that was coming my way.

Our Orders

Spicy Miso Ramen - $12.95 – Miso Ramen (bean paste flavour) with special hot chili sauce, served with bean sprouts, soft boiled egg, green onion, bamboo shoot, sliced pork, corn, dried seaweed

Spicy lovers should try this soup without a doubt. Down under the broth’s medium spice you’ll discover juicy bits of shaved corn mixed in with delicious egg noodles with a texture sitting perfectly between soft and crunchy.

On top is the real gem of this dish, two slices of perfectly cooked pork that are so good you’ll want to order a few extra.

Menyatai Japanese Ramen provided exemplary service and food in a boutique atmosphere, making this a go-to place on my list of food spots in the Kensington area. Check it out!
