Pho Taurus Calgary Restaurant Review
Summer's long days bring a whole new meaning to “late night” hunger. Unfortunately for some suburban areas, there are few nearby restaurants that stay open past 9:00pm for those that find themselves in such a dire situation.
Pho Taurus, located in the Coventry Hills Shopping Centre, is however one exception with a closing time of 10:00pm nightly Monday through Saturday. On this particular occasion it was just past 9:00pm and we had a craving for Vietnamese cuisine – perfect!

Atmosphere and Service
Inside of Pho Taurus you'll find moderately comfortable tables amid a spacious seating plan for the size of the restaurant. A sky blue paint job makes you feel relaxed while the small decorative touches do their job bring a little bit of Vietnam to the ambiance.
On the other hand, the service was exceptional compared to some other pho restaurants I have been to. Our waters were topped up as soon as they were emptied and our table checked on more than enough times by our server. What a great job!
Our Orders
Vietnamese spring rolls - $6.25 – deep fried spring roll with pork contents
I wasn't a huge fan of these spring rolls. They didn't have the usual veggie and meat mix that most restaurants use as filler and were a bit on the small side. However, the spicy fish oil sauce they were served with was something unique to the restaurant and made up for this downfall to make them a decent appetizer.
Shrimp and pork salad rolls - $6.50 – shrimp, pork, cilantro, carrots, vermicelli noodles in rice wrap
While the spring rolls were a miss, the salad rolls turned the tide with both shrimp and pork and a fatter than usual girth that made them both delicious AND filling, You will appreciate these if salad rolls if one of your things like they are for me.
Pho Sate Tom - $8.75 – house special sate soup, beef strips, onions, cilantro, vermicelli noodles
The house special soup has more of a sweeter, almost a barbecue like taste that was definitely different from the traditional spicy sate soup at most other pho restaurants. However, it was a nice change and is well worth a try. I was extremely pleased with the no-fat, no-gristle beef!
Pho Taurus is a great place to stop in at not just when you got late night hunger, but during any time of the day. Also check out Calgaryism's list of Best Calgary Pho Restaurants today!
