Song Han Vietnamese Cuisine Calgary Restaurant Review
Calgary’s northwest inner city region is home to a handful of Vietnamese restaurants that don’t change much when it comes to menu selection - but do substantially in taste - something that is especially noticeable for pho connoisseurs like myself.
Having said that, I will argue any day of the week that Song Han Vietnamese Restaurant in the Kensington Business Revitalization Zone has the best pho in the northwest inner city region of Calgary, and that you should consider checking this place out the next time you’re looking for an extra-large serving of pho soup.

Atmosphere and Service
One thing I enjoy about Song Han is its seating arrangement. All tables are booths of either two or four seats and are rowed in the same direction which allows for a decent amount of privacy. In addition, HDTV’s above the tables are always playing sport channels and are good to watch if you’re dining alone.
When it comes to service, Song Han is very quick and making pho soup and are consistent with making sure you have everything you need. One thing I can’t stand is not having a big enough glass for my water and needing a refill every time I have a sip, which is often when you’re eating spicy food, something I do not have an issue with at Song Han because of the massive glasses they use. It’s petty, but important for a spicy pho sate lover, like me!
Orders
Beef Pho Sate Soup (XL) - $12.50 – beef slices, rice vermicelli, onions in spicy house made sate soup
Song Han’s house broth isn’t too salty or oily and comes mildly spiced, so I usually ask for an extra dish of sate sauce and spice it up to my liking. Regardless, this broth is the kind that makes you want to slurp it all up before you’re done.
For the cost, the extra-large size is definitely worth the few extra bucks as you get a huge amount of noodles accompanied by a decent amount of beef. However, on some visits I find the beef slices in most of Song Han’s dishes to be on the chewier side. All in all, for the hungry, this bowl is a deal you can’t beat!
You should know that Song Han doesn’t just have “pho” and “bun” on its menu, but a wide variety of Vietnamese dishes ranging from sweet yellow curry chicken to savoury salt and pepper duck. So whether you like pho soup or not, you’ll definitely find something that you like at Song Han in Kensington – check it out!
