Calgary is a rather large city with an area of 825 square kilometres, which can make remembering all of its speeding camera locations a daunting task for drivers.

Over ten years ago, red light cameras were installed at select intersections across the city after a high-profile fatal accident involving a driver who ran a red light. Eventually, these devices were improved to double as "speed-on-green" cameras that could detect a speeding vehicle with photo radar technology.

The best (and safest) strategy for avoiding tickets from a speed camera in Calgary is to drive at or under the speed limit. Calgary's red light cameras are also tricky because you must enter the intersection while the light is yellow to avoid getting a ticket, making some people speed up.

But don't make the mistake of speeding up to make a yellow light only to be issued a ticket by a red light/speeding camera!

The Calgary Police Service (CPS) has implemented speed-on-green traffic cameras at various locations throughout the city. These cameras are part of the municipality's automated traffic enforcement program, which aims to reduce speeding and promote traffic safety.

By being aware of these camera locations, you can adjust your driving habits and avoid receiving unnecessary speeding tickets --- although we recommend driving the speed limit to avoid tickets altogether!
