New Calgary East Village Developers and Projects

East Village dates back to 1875, the site of the historic Fort Calgary and the birthplace of the city. Over the years, the area fell on hard times, leaving vacant lots in its abandoned future.

Today, East Village is undergoing a radical transformation and will offer some of the cities best dining, recreation, shopping and living spaces the City of Calgary has to offer.

The future of East Village is a promising one, with $113 million in infrastructure improvements, major mixed use projects beginning construction, and a redeveloped St. Patrick’s Island and pedestrian bridge.

The New Calgary East Village Developers and Projects

Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC) – Created by the City of Calgary Council in 2007 for management and execution of Calgary’s urban redevelopment plan approved by the city and the province.

FRAM+Slokker – Two Ontario based companies, FRAM and Slokker Real Estate, who have put together their expertise to develop new residential developments. Expect future projects from the group, who have suggested they plan on buying more land Calgary East Village. FIRST Condos is their current EV project.

Embassy Bosa Inc. – Established by Ryan Bosa, based out of Vancouver with extensive experience in high rise and mid rise development projects internationally. Evolution Condos is their current project underway in EV.

Widewaters Group – Commercial development group from the United States who have taken interest in participating in the new Calgary East Village. Total investments by the Widewaters Group for existing constructs and current projects tally’s at approximately $1.16 billion across the USA and Canada! The new Hilton Hotel in EV is their current project.

Other Projects

RiverWalk – Extension of the RiverWalk pathway to approximately 4 kilometers on the Bow and Elbow river embankments, connecting all the communities along the way. Increased recreational opportunities for pedestrians, rollerbladers and cyclists also stems from the pathway extension.

Langevin Bridge – LED light assembly added to the heritage bridge that is 110 years old. LED’s are extremely energy efficient, are expected to last 35 years and won’t require much electricity to power them. Every light in the LED assembly can produce over 16 million colours! That should put on some good light shows!

Elbow River Traverse – A new cyclist and pedestrian bridge connecting East Village and Fort Calgary to the nearby communities of Ramsay and Inglewood. Still under review by the City of Calgary.

Heritage Buildings – Nothing else shows more character than the historical buildings in EV. CMLC is currently in the process of restoring them. Upon completion they will be leased as commercial and office spaces.

St. Patrick’s Bridge – The current bridge does not connect to the north side of the Bow River. A new redevelopment plan is in place to connect the north embankment with St. Patrick’s Island and East Village.

St. Patrick’s Island – A complete restoration to turn the island into a recreational park with something for everyone to enjoy. Two renowned American based companies have been hired by the CMLC for the architecture and landscaping required to make it all come true.

With so many new and exciting projects, future and unknown projects and hype in the Calgary media, it’s no wonder the new Calgary community of East Village is the talk of the town!
