Calgaryism's Viet West Pho Restaurant Review
I’m always up for trying out new Vietnamese restaurants in Calgary. Because there are so many, finding good ones in different areas is a bonus especially when you’ve got to drive all over the city for work.
One of my friends recommended we try Viet West, a pho restaurant tucked away in a strip mall along 4th Street NW past McKnight Boulevard but just before Northmount Drive. Here's Calgaryism’s restaurant review for this hidden gem.

Atmosphere & Service
Viet West’s menu is self-explanatory and has a ton of options. From spicy pho sate beef soup to dry bun and rice dishes, they have it all.
At first I was a bit hesitant of eating at Viet West because of its shabby appearance, but my attitude changed once getting a taste of our orders.
Our booth seat was rather comfortable and server did a great job of making sure our needs were met throughout the meal. He even filled our drinks up without having to ask for it – a telltale sign that your server is on the ball.
Our Orders
#17 - Satay beef noodle soup - $9.75 - vermicelli noodles, onion, tomato in house-made sate broth served with bean sprouts, cilantro and lime
Viet West’s satay beef noodle soup had a mildly spicy broth with a delicious peanut taste. The vermicelli noodles were cooked perfectly while the beef was gristle-free.
As a matter of fact, the broth was so tasty that I managed to slurp it all down even after there was nothing left in the soup – it was that good!
#1 – Deep fried spring rolls - $3.50 – pork spring rolls served with fish oil dipping sauce
These spring rolls tasted like they were made fresh; each bite was more savoury and better than the last. Comes in a bundle of four which isn’t bad at all for the price.
#4 - Satay beef salad rolls - $6.50 - vermicelli noodles, carrots, cilantro, satay beef in rice wrap served with sweet peanut dipping sauce
Satay beef is a good alternative to your typical shrimp salad rolls especially when someone you're eating with has an allergy.
I’m usually inclined to try the spring roll and sate soup combo at most pho restaurants I’ve never been to before in Calgary.
These two dishes, as basic as they are in the spectrum of Vietnamese cuisines, are a good reflection of a restaurants commitment to making good food for customers which is why we recommend you to check out Viet West the next time you’re in the area!
