Is there such thing as a meat-packed meal and refreshing beverage for only $8 dollars?

I thought it was only a myth in modern day Calgary, until today when a friend of mine took me to Wai’s BBQ House in Chinatown.

    Atmosphere

Walking into Wai’s BBQ House you immediately notice there aren’t any tables and chairs.

This place is order-to-go only; however, this isn’t such a bad thing when you have RiverWalk, Princes Island Park and other green spaces only a few minutes away, not to mention a very large parking lot beside Wai’s that makes it convenient to eat in your car.

    Service

The man and woman attending Wai’s BBQ House were very helpful and polite. They spoke fluent English and were more than happy to give us an extra lean cut off of the BBQ pork and roasted pork dishes we ordered.

I was amazed to see the man use his huge butcher knife in a way that was almost an art form; tenderly cutting off each piece of gristle from the pork, his fingers moving in and out as he sliced, almost as if he didn’t notice how close they were. I guess that’s how it is when you are a professional with a butcher knife!

I decided I would get the same thing as my friend since it was my first time at Wai’s – the Lunch Box special for only $7 dollars.

You get a choice of two meats served with broccoli and on top of steamed rice. Between pork, BBQ pork, duck, chicken and beef, we had the two pork’s.

They were definitely a good choice! The BBQ pork was my favourite as it was slightly crispy and a delicious flavour that would keep any meat lover coming back for more.

Another great thing about Wai’s BBQ House is that their beverages are only $1 dollar! There aren’t many food and drink establishments nowadays that still offer such cheap drinks.

For only $8 dollars you can’t beat the lunch box special at Wai’s BBQ House in Chinatown. Not only is their food affordable, but it’s extremely healthy too!

Check it out the next time you’re in Chinatown!
