Calgary: Elements of a Successful City

What are elements? Well, it’s likely you know what these are from school. They form the basis of everything in our world; from the water we drink to the food we eat, everything is comprised of elements in various combinations.Calgary Successful City Infographic

The successful nature of Calgary, Alberta, Canada can be easily compared to the molecule of a substance comprised of several different elements. Without one of them in place, the whole molecule would change into something different.

Here are some of the elements of Calgary that make it the successful city it is today.

Location is a key element of a successful city, and Calgary’s location is superb. With two sparking clean rivers, nearby mountains and proximity to Canada’s oil sands, Calgary combines active, healthy living and a natural base for industry and commerce.

With its “can do” entrepreneurial spirit and dedicated city staff and mayor, Calgary is an exceptional business friendly city. The city’s extensive population base, strong purchasing power, and highly skilled and educated workforce attracts new business, visitors and residents at a higher rate than almost anywhere else in Canada.

If anything was testament as to how strong the community is in Calgary, it was the floods of June 2013. People from all walks of life came together and volunteered to help with the clean-up, did their best to take care of those displaced, and many also made financial donations of their own. #CalgaryStrong.

Diversity of Cultures

Calgary’s population is extremely diverse. Approximately 25 percent of Calgarians are foreign born and there are around 120 languages spoken in the city. These people bring with them their cultures, values, beliefs and experiences which most often than not make our city a vibrant and exciting place to live in.
