The list of places to eat and buy goodies for later in East Village just got a whole lot better.
Today, the trifecta of new food and drink establishments we’ve all heard about now for quite some time - Charbar, Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters and Sidewalk Citizen Bakery – are now open for business in the 103 year old Simmons Building!

Located along RiverWalk at 618 Confluence Way SE, the Simmons Building restaurant, coffee shop and bakery will be easily accessible for all East Village and downtown residents / workers, as well as those living in Bridgeland via St. Patrick’s Island.

In its early years the Simmons Buildings was far from being a restaurant; it actually was a factory warehouse that produced mattresses for a national bedding manufacturer. Only in 2008 did its restoration begin when the Calgary Municipal Lands Corporation (CMLC) started East Village’s redevelopment all together.
Visit the building today and you will notice its old-western charm with many historical elements brought up to 21st century specifications. I specifically noticed the pine pillars, brick walls and hardwood floors definitely had a historical charm despite extensive renovations.
Charbar
Charbar’s culinary wonders can be enjoyed from an extensive roof-top patio that overlooks the Bow River and gives great views of the downtown skyline.
If you have ate at Charcut before, then you should know what kind of cuisine to expect – lots of meats with a focus on using locally sourced ingredients.
Phil & Sebastian Coffee
Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters has risen from humble beginnings in a local farmers market to now being one of the most recognized coffee brands in the city.
Enjoy a cup of Phil & Sebastian coffee any way you’d like it at the Simmons Building this summer, a new pinnacle establishment where the City of Calgary was founded, and also where a big part of its exciting future is to come.
Sidewalk Citizen Bakery
Another home-grown food and drink establishment has made its way into the Simmons Building in East Village.
Sidewalk Citizen Bakery is all that you could hope for in a shop of its kind; organic breads, tasty pastries, delicacy desserts, salads, sandwiches and pizza – the quick-to-grab staples of diet that many of us enjoy.
I Love East Village
The opening of the Simmons Building is just one of many exciting events to come in East Village. You might want to keep an eye open for the opening of the…
…both now under construction in the neighbourhood, along with several new condominium developments with unit prices ranging from the low $300,000’s to in the millions.
