Festivals in a vibrant, culturally rich city like Calgary are bound to be lively and unique.
A city known for its two seasons, summer and construction, the only drawback is multiple street closures and short detours.
Don’t let that deter you from enjoying a variety of fun outdoor events especially after what felt like the longest and coldest winter ever!
Consider this your guide to the must-attend Calgary festivals in June 2014 and kick start an unforgettable summer.
FunnyFest Calgary Comedy Festival
- May 29 – June 8, 2014
- Multiple venues
- Admission: Free to $25 depending on show
For 11 days, be prepared to laugh your face off with over 70 performers from around the world participating at the largest comedy festival in Western Canada.
If you’ve ever dreamed of being a stand-up comedian then try your jokes at one of their seminars on comedy writing and public speaking.

Calgary Ukrainian Festival
- June 7 – 8, 2014
- Acadia Recreation Complex, 240 – 90 Ave SE
Admission:
- General Admission (16 – 64 years old) = $10
- Senior (65+ years old) and Youth (7 – 15 years old) = $5
- Children (under 6 years old) = Free
Over 80,000 Ukrainians call Calgary home and they welcome everyone to learn more about their culture through entertainment and food.
Join the Zabava on Saturday night and get ready to watch (and dance) in the traditional Kolomeyka.
Ignite! Calgary’s Festival for Emerging Artists
- June 8 – 21, 2014
- Pumphouse Theatre, 2140 Pumphouse Ave SW
- Admissions: Free
Organized by Sage Theatre, Ignite! is a unique multi-disciplinary festival focusing on the collaboration of 100 talented emerging artists as well as over 20 established artists.
There will also be panel discussions to explore art-related issues that artists face today.
Sled Island Music Festival
- June 18 – 22, 2014
- Multiple venues
- Admissions: Tickets $10 - $40 or festival passes $50 - $199
Since its inception in 2007, the Sled Island Music Festival has grown into a massive gathering for arts and music lovers.
This annual festival which features a line-up of over 300 bands, films, comedians and visual artists performing across 38 venues in our city.

Greek Festival

Come celebrate the 15th annual Calgary Greek Festival by watching traditional dances and sampling traditional foods like souvlaki, spanakopita and baklava.
Try your luck by entering a draw for a trip to Greece for two. Opa!
Family Day Pow Wow Festival
- June 21, 2014
- Shaw Millennium Park
- Admission: Free
In honor of Aboriginal Awareness Week, Calgarians are encouraged to partake in the traditions of our First Nations communities through story-telling, entertainment and food.
At 4:00 pm, Shaw Millennium Park is transformed into a dance party when the pow wow commences with traditional dancing and drumming.
Empty Bowls Arts Festival
- June 21, 2014
- Nose Creek Park, Airdrie
- Admission: Free
Take a drive to Airdrie for the 7th annual Empty Bowls Arts Festivals raising awareness and funds for the Airdrie Food Bank.
Guests are encouraged to make ceramic bowls with the assistance from potters and painters, then sell them with proceeds going towards the local food bank.
Since the event started, over 2,500 bowls have been sold.
Other fun-filled activities include a free soup lunch, face painting, music from local bands and silent auction to bid on bowls made by local celebrities.
Cyclepalooza
- June 27 – July 6, 2014

- Admission: Varies
Cyclists in our city are definitely a tight-knit community and that is evident with the birth of Cyclepalooza three years ago.
Drawing upon the success of bicycle-themed festivals in Portland and Vancouver, Cyclepalooza invites cycling enthusiasts to enjoy ten days of fun and fascinating events from a cycling pub crawl to a technicolor Mario Kart race.
