Oishii Riverbend “All-You-Can-Eat” Sushi Review
I’m always a bit skeptical of all-you-can-eat sushi restaurants in Calgary simply because I find the quality of ingredients to be a bit lower compared to some of my favourite local spots.
Let’s just say that skepticism has been diminished greatly after visiting Oishii Sushi in Riverbend this past weekend!

Atmosphere & Service
One thing I immediately liked about Oishii Sushi is its modern interior and spacious seating arrangement. This place was nearly packed when I went for dinner – always a good sign that the restaurant you are visiting is good, indeed.
The more private two person booths were all taken unfortunately, but we ended up getting a decent half-booth spot near the open kitchen with lots of space between us and the table to our sides.
Because of its size, I did find the restaurant to be a bit noisy but then and again this is expected when a room this large is filled to the max with hungry customers. The washrooms were also very well kept.
Our server did a good job of making sure our drinks were filled and orders taken considering how busy the place was. Definitely no complaints whatsoever!
Our Food
Initially I didn’t realize that Oishii was an all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant because the rolls coming out of the kitchen looked so appetizing. They were full sized rolls and not smaller like you see at some other all-you-can-eat sushi restaurants around Calgary. Here’s what we tried:
Egg drop soup – egg, sweet corn, carrot slices
This soup reminded me hot and sour soup but without all the veggies; just a simple, tasty appetizer to tie you over before the main course.
Maguro sashimi – white tuna
Some of the freshest, softest and tastiest white tuna sashimi I’ve had, although cuts were a bit smaller than typical but still so, so good. Come in twos so I recommend getting at least two orders.
Shake Atlantic sashimi – salmon
This salmon sashimi reminded me of that which you would get at a non-all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant. They were moderately sized, very fresh and succulent to taste. Of the six slices between two orders, there was only one with a bit of tough tendon but it was no big deal.
Beef tataki (seen above) – sliced kobe style beef with green and red onions, raddish drizzled in ponzu sauce
I especially liked this full-sized appetizer from Oishii with its thin, tender slices of beef marinated in a sweet and delicious ponzu sauce. It reminded me of exactly the same dish from a non-all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant, once again.
Mango dragon roll – prawn tempura, avocado, cucumber, mayo, masago topped with mango
By the time we were ready to eat an actual sushi roll, we were so full that we just got one. We chose well! This full size roll’s highlight was the juicy, moderately thick mango slice drizzled with sweet house mayo that created a nice contrast between tastes. The avocado was also ripe and had a nice and soft texture, adding well to an already delicious roll.
Overall I really enjoyed eating at Oishii Sushi in Riverbend. I highly recommend this place to anyone who would enjoy a quality all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant in Calgary.
