I’m sure you’ve heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Well, if you’re like me, you probably don’t always feel like cooking first thing in the morning and immediately turn your attention to where you can get good breakfast close to home. For those who live in the northwest, there’s a handful of awesome restaurants where you’ll find some of the best breakfast in NW Calgary.

Here are our top breakfast restaurants in the northwest quadrant of Calgary. Please leave us a comment below and let us know what your favourite breakfast / brunch are in the area, we will do our best to add it to the list!

Dairy Lane Calgary RestaurantDairy Lane Café

    • Address – 319 19th Street NW

This small, popular café in Hillhurst has become a go-to place for breakfast and brunch not only for the immediate area, but for breakfast enthusiasts from all over Calgary. If you don’t know why this is, then you must visit this restaurant as soon as you get the chance, take my word for it!

One of my favourites is the avocado & roasted red pepper eggs Benedict – two poached farm fresh eggs, English muffin, house hollandaise sauce, avocado and roasted red pepper. Try adding back bacon; it’s a nice addition to the exotic vegetarian Benny. For those sensitive to gluten, add a gluten-free English muffin for only $2!

Another favourite is the fruit, yogurt & granola – assorted fresh fruits, plain yogurt and homemade granola. This otherwise bland home-made dish is brought to life at Dairy Lane Café, a great way to kick start your day with full servings of fruits and fibre. Try combining one of their 49th Parallel Coffee’s with a freshly made baked apple strudel – this tandem is surprisingly filling and scrumptious to boot.

Long line-ups at restaurants are a blatant indicator of just how good their food, drink and service is. John’s is one of those places that you’ll visit on the weekends and find a line-up that goes around the corner of the building - but then and again the wait is worth it!

My favourite is their loaded omelette – cheese, ham, onion, peppers, tomatoes and bacon, served with crispy hash browns and your choice of toast. What more could you ask for?
