New Record for Calgary Luxury Home Sales - September 2013

The month of September has ushered in a new record for Calgary luxury home sales.

According to MLS, so far in the month there have been 45 closed transactions over the $1 million marker, beating out the previous record set in 2011 (44 sales) by 1.

As a matter of fact, September 2013 isn’t a stand-alone record setting month when it comes to Calgary luxury home sales as the past several months, since October 2012, have consecutively broken luxury home sales with one exception.

January 2013 was the only month in this string of record breaking to not do exactly that.

Demand for Luxury

Calgary’s strong employment growth and high inbound migration are two factors playing into new Calgary luxury home sales records as of late.

When there are more jobs, there are more people and in a province with the highest average wages, more money as well, therefore higher price point homes quickly become reality for many who maybe couldn’t afford them before.

Another factor resulting in increased demand for luxury real estate is the high amount of executive jobs found in Calgary.

We have the largest concentration of head offices per capita in Canada; many companies have chosen our city as their home base and have an extensive list of well paid professionals on their payrolls.

Many Options for Buyers

Buyers looking for luxury have a wider selection of luxury real estate to choose from now than ever before.

New luxury developments such as The River in Mission and Watermark at Bearspaw are setting a new standard for luxury living in Calgary, while new and luxurious inner city infills still attract the attention of many luxury buyers.

With several luxury options in almost every quadrant of Calgary, people are finding the exact type of upscale home they want and in a seller’s market are moving ahead with their decision to buy sooner.
