New Hilton Hotel Taking Shape in East Village

New Hilton Hotel Well Underway in East Village
With the New Central Library, National Music Centre and new condominiums taking most of the media attention over the past several months, there has barely been any room for mention of the Hilton Hotel that is now easily distinguishable on the East Village skyline.
The new 320-room hotel will feature a combination of two defining Hilton brands - the Hilton Garden and Homewood Suites - under one amazing rooftop terrace that faces southward. It’s located on the corner of 7th Avenue and 4th Street SE in the heart of the revitalized downtown community.

Modular Construction
Now with construction well underway, many are taking notice that the hotel is being built rather quickly, all thanks to new modular fabrication techniques that will see it completed in only 18 months!
The first three floors of the structure were built using traditional methods – cast-in-place concrete – while an entirely different technique called “girder-slab” will be used on the remaining 11 stories above.
This technique will implore the services of two cranes that will lift huge pre-built floor planks made of steel and concrete. Each plank is eight inches thick, four feet wide and between 20 to 24 feet long, which are set into place and then installed accordingly.
Furthermore, modular bathrooms have also been pre-built off-site which will help to save much time on the construction process. Each bathroom “pod” includes everything from the drawers and toilet to the mirror(s) and light fixtures. Installing the pods takes only about an hours’ work by plumbers and electricians after lifted into place and properly aligned.
The exterior of the new Hilton Hotel is expected to be completed sometime in January of 2016. Afterwards, the final touches on the interior such as fittings, detailing and furniture will make this key part of East Village’s amenity puzzle ready for service.
